A new year begs for many individuals to ask themselves the same question "what will my new years resolution be?". For some it may be learn how to play an instrument, be more productive, or quit a negatively effecting habit. But, for me and three of my other friends we have decided to cut out sugar from our diets for 6 months!
The method behind our madness is that in our efforts to cut out sugar and anything made with white flour, we will not only change the physical state of our health but also create positive eating habits that will come in handy down the road when we enter into college. Personally, I know that this journey is not going to be a walk in the park. But, since we are taking on this challenge within a group larger than one person we will be able to keep one another accountable and encouraged throughout the process.
In a nut shell this blog's purpose is to document the highs and lows of my journey. So here we go!
DAY 1:
Waking up in a house filled with left over treats and snacks laying out from a New Year's eve party the night before is not the most ideal situation I would have been liked to be in on the first day of this challenge. But, none the less my friend Kate (one of the other three girls who is doing the diet with me) and I decided to go out to Whole Foods for a healthy brunch.
(Our salad bowls we bought from Whole Foods)
The rest of the day didn't bring up anything too tempting to eat which is a plus. But, it did become obvious to me that in order to curb my coffee craving I must substitute coffee for green tea. Which I don't have a huge dilemma with considering it is a healthier and more budget friendly alternative.
For dinner, I came home tonight to a Norwegian tradition of pork and sauerkraut (sou(ə)rˌkrout) served with two small sides of mashed potatoes and corn. Although I did not participate in eating the sauerkraut I did appreciate the rest of the meal and the superstitious tradition that came along with it. According to my German heritage, eating this dish on January first brings you good luck for the rest of the year. I guess this 6 month challenge will be a test of this traditions accuarcy for good luck.
